Position Title: Intern – Program Specialist II

This position’s primary purpose is to assist the state Adoption Program Specialist with a variety of administrative duties regarding adoption services. Duties will include processing adoption paperwork, providing assistance to adoptive families and children, and working on special adoption projects. Responsibilities may include assisting adult adoptees in obtaining their sealed adoption records and registering both birth families and adult adoptees on the state adoption registry. This position will have involvement with all aspects of the adoption process. The selected applicant will also be given the opportunity to experience other duties within Child Protection Services.
Coursework in social work, psychology, sociology, child development, or a related field of study is preferred. The applicant must be willing to work as part of a team, have knowledge of Microsoft Office, have strong communication skills and must be willing to travel throughout the state with Division staff. Normal work schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., but there may be times when additional hours are necessary.
Applicant must be a full-time student at a college, university or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the applicant should have at least a sophomore standing or currently be enrolled at a technical institute and have completed one year (nine months).
Preference will be given to South Dakota residents and students of South Dakota institutions.
Minimum Salary: $12.40
