Direct Support Professionals in our Community Based Program participate in the direct care and management of clients as prescribed by physician and treatment teams. They provide supervision, safety and crisis management for the client population; complete documentation of client behavior and participation in programming; adhere to the schedule activities; role model positive, mature behavior; utilize proactive behavioral strategies to minimize client crisis and maximize success. Duties and responsibilities of the Direct Support Professionals vary in intensity and frequency depending on the assignment and include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist clients with achieving personal goals; work on behalf of the client to overcome barriers; help clients participate in activities of their choice; respect client’s personal beliefs, choices, and interests
Provide care and assistance to promote good health; help clients receive medical care and communicate with medical professionals; administer medications according to physician instructions; record information regarding health events, conditions, and status; provides First Aid/CPR and seek emergency medical care when needed
Help clients with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, and toileting; assist clients with their mobility, as necessary
Living Skills Development
Help clients develop living skills such as cooking, money management, household shopping, doing laundry, personal hygiene, etc.; teach work-related skills and job preparedness; record progress on skill development and achievement
Serve as a role model and mentor, demonstrating desired behaviors; coach clients using approved strategies
Maintain cleanliness of group homes, etc.; drive company vehicles to transport clients to their activities; follow policies and procedures
Evening/weekend are available.
Must be willing and able to work weekends and holidays.
Possible Work Schedules:
Sunday – Tuesday Sunday – Wednesday Wednesday – Saturday Thursday – Saturday
Evening shifts are from 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm
Weekend shifts are from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm
Overnight shifts are from 10:30 pm to 8:30 am
Substitute opportunities are also available for candidates with schedule limitations
*** Shift differentials are offered for hours worked between 3:30 pm Friday and 10:30 pm Sunday ***
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be 21 years of age
- High School or GED required
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required
- 3 months experience working with adults in a volunteer or paid capacity preferred
- Demonstrates moderate computer skills – how to log-in, how to navigate the Web for information, how to start and save a document in Microsoft WORD, and has basic keyboarding skills.
