Paid Internship Opportunity – Resilience and Emergency Preparedness
Duration of Internship: May 17 – August 13, 2021
The Preparedness and Resilience Division is responsible for the integration of emergency preparedness and information collection, analysis, and dissemination. The division also facilitates a systematic process that promotes a “whole-community” approach to all hazards preparedness planning in the District.
HSEMA is looking for highly-skilled graduate students, that are interested in homeland security and emergency management related matters and how these practices protect life and property. In particular, HSEMA is looking for students interested in or majoring in the following fields:
- Emergency Management/Homeland Security
- Adult Education
- Geographic Information Systems
- Governmental Affairs
- Instructional Design
- Public Administration/Policy
- Public Health
- Urban Planning
HSEMA is seeking highly-skilled and enthusiastic graduate and undergraduate students interested in careers in homeland security and emergency management. Interns are exposed to a unique and dynamic environment showcasing governmental and nongovernmental coordination. In the past, interns had the opportunity to work alongside local, state, and federal partners on coordinated events in the District. Interns attend large-scale exercises and events with public and private partners to expand their network, grow as professionals, and have the experience of a lifetime. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate professionalism, timeliness, effective communication, and enthusiasm for learning. Accepted interns will work 30 hours per week during the Summer session.
Internship Eligibility and Requirements
HSEMA is looking for highly-skilled graduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled, who are in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5 at a U.S. college or university. Enrollment must be supported by a transcript or an official letter from school administration. It cannot be a letter from a professor.
