JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
1. Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
Experience:
1. Demonstrates successful entry-level professional skills for providing service to individuals birth through 21
Certificates/Licenses:
1. Current State of Colorado Special Services Provider License with Occupational Therapist endorsement
2. Valid driver’s license

JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Keeps daily records, writes progress reports, and prepares other notes and correspondence
2. Assesses, evaluates, and alters the current and anticipated school environments to accommodate the individual’s disabilities
3. Participates in Response to Intervention Teams as requested
4. Maintains ability to be available on short notice at different sites, including off-campus locations
5. Medical understanding of movement, augmentative procedures, and equipment
6. Physical capability to perform essential functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides direct and indirect occupational therapy services to assigned students, including fine body development and motor development
2. Provides necessary consultative services and augmentative assessments/neurological assessments to special education personnel, teachers, counselors, and parents regarding Individual Educational Programs for children requiring adaptations, modifications, or specific activities related to an occupational condition
3. Assists with completion of progress reports for children receiving services
4. Supervises the District Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in providing direct services within the school District and elsewhere in the community: (e.g. YMCA)
5. Participates in the evaluation of students when referred for assessment
6. Participates in the planning of a 504 Plan, including services, if appropriate
7. Maintains records and completes all information necessary for the District data management system or required by state and federal agencies
8. Provides direct, hands-on instruction/intervention to the student individually, in small group settings, and in other situations within the educational environment to improve the student’s functional fine motor performance level in accordance with the student’s needs
9. Provides the parent with options for an individualized home program designed to promote optimal, immediate, and life-long motor abilities
10. Improves functional independence by recommending and teaching the use of adapted equipment and/or teaching other methods of compensation
11. Deals with post-operative functioning and rehabilitation in an effort to return student to prior or
improved functioning level
12. Provides collaboration and assistance to parents and staff regarding the student’s disabling condition and its effect of level of functioning at school, home, and in the community
13. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis
14. Models an effective understanding and respect for diversity and inclusion
15. Incorporates legal rights and due process for children with special needs
16. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner
17. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change
18. Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Certain positions within the District may impose additional physical demands. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; taste and smell; and talk and hear. The employee may also need to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to exert average or above average physical effort in the Center Based Special Education programs.
