Visitor Guides represent Shelburne Museum as staff ambassadors. They belong to a large community of fellow learners dedicated to sharing their enthusiasm and appreciation for art, history, and culture with more than 100,000 visitors annually.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated interest in history, art, and culture.
- Equivalent of two or more years of college preferred but not required.
- At least two years of experience working with the public is highly desirable.
- Experience with customer service, prior work as an educator, and/or prior experience in a museum or related organization will be considered assets.
- Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with supervisors, fellow guides, and with staff from across the museum.
- Enthusiasm to learn about the museum’s diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI) initiatives through periodic paid training and workshops; a desire to make the museum more welcoming and inclusive for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
- Some visitor service functions require work in multi-level historical structures and travel throughout the campus.
Schedule Requirements
- The 2024 season is May 11 – October 20.
- Must be available at least three days a week. A flexible schedule is highly desirable.
- Visitor Guides should expect to work at least one weekend day and some holidays.
- New Visitor Guides will be expected to attend 3 days of paid training in early May and periodic paid training held during the public season.
